Once upon a time, Donald Trump went to Puerto Rico to throw Paper Towels at the people because of a natural disaster. Cut to 2023 and he made another Trip as former President to East Palestine, Ohio to give them water and throw hats to them at Mcdonalds. This was to show he was the leader the country needed while Joe Biden was handling things as President around the world. Needless to say this was another photo op for the orange man and it did nothing to bolster his anti-liberal argument. Joe Biden has already offered the Fed's help in the situation on day 2 of it existing, but the Ohio Governor Dewine declined the help. So here we stand.
Mark Bland, your host, along with Jason Kull and Matt Krueger break down and discuss the East Palestine train derailment along with turning their focus to Russia where it seems Putin is losing ground a year deep into the war with Ukraine. He has decided to pull out of the last Treaty regarding nuclear arms, which means he is going to try and use them at some point. Hence the potential for World War 3 to begin with China potentially backing Russia. And while this goes on, in the USA Marjorie Taylor Greene, a georgia Congresswoman has decided to ask the RED STATES of the US to secede creating the potential for another Civil War. Seems that republicans are War hungry!
Finally Mark puts Matt Krueger and Jason Kull to a test of wits! Jason found a 90's trivia game at the station and decided to see who would be the ultimate 1990's trivia champ. Matt was younger and had more influence in his childhood during that time, but Jason was older and in college, so his influences might give him a leg up. We all find out who the real trivia champ of the 90's is on this episode of The QNow!
Well we have made it. After multiple shows and 64 songs going head to head, we are down to the final 4 songs of the tournament! And we have Justin Deming on the show too! What a treat...
First up, Mark and Justin discuss the horrible actions of Anthony Castaldi and Shaft regarding the wrestling match for the MMWA Commissionership! The match was living up to the hype it created and Mark was in full control ready to level Shaft with a Chair! When out of the blue the Brotherhood sends one of their men down to knock Mark out and then the promoter/owner of MMWA comes down to fast count Mark and give the win to Shaft! How! Only the Referee is sanctioned by the state to award victories. The men discuss!
Next up, legedary STL broadcaster Don Marsh joins the show to discuss his brand new book, The Fabulist. Don has been a broadcaster for over 40 years in the St. Louis area covering some of the greatest moments in human history! But after leaving the broadcast booth in 2019, he turned his focus to being an author and writing! Don joins Mark and Justin to discuss his illustrious career and to chop it up about the current state of media in regards to politics in 2023!
Finally we are set in the finals for the tournament of pop culture. One hit wonders have been plaguing the show for weeks on end, but we are finally down to our last 4. Who will become the victor and claim the prize as the best overall one hit wonder over the many decades covered. From the 1960's till 2023, multiple songs from the Archies, to Rockwell, to Frankie Goes to Hollywood have been fighting tooth and nail. But it seems the 1990's and 80's brought the heat when it came to the best. Find out who reaigns supreme by tuning in and listening!
The 2023 State of the Union address happened and it didn't come without fireworks. As expected, and as Mark alluded to on social media all week, the republicans just couldn't help themselves. They made a fool of Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy and that was after he pleaded for them to act with decorum. It really is becoming parliament, so we on the show don't know why they just don't change their parties to the Tory's and Whigs and change congress to Parliament now. But Joe Biden was able to get through and even create a moment of unity...the gentlemen discuss.
Also the 2023 Grammy's happened and Mark was not thrilled with the layout of the show. Not the show itself but the layout for sure. Mark and Jason welcome Canadian Music Critic Mitch Lafon to the show. Mitch jumps in with over 30 years of music background to discuss the Sam Smith situation, Beyonce breaking records, the 50th Anniv. Hip hop performance and everything! Plus being a critic usually runs down more than one path and TV/Film is also on the table as Mitch tells us the show he wants everyone to pick up and watch!
Finally it is the final round of the Tournament of Pop culture: One hit Wonders! We have the last 16 songs vying for a spot in the championship. With strong showings over the past few weeks from disco and 80's mainstays, this week adds some 2000's one hit wonders as well as brings us one of Jason hopefuls! So has your song finally made it, did it get ignored...what would you have changed or put somewhere else? All this and much more gets discussed and broken down on this episode of the show!
Krueger is back on this amazing edition of the QNow joined by the host Mark Bland and Jason Kull!
First up is the story of Tyre Nichols and the horrendous beating death he incurred at the hands of multiple police officers in memphis Tennessee. The guys never had a chance to discuss this one but the video was too incriminating to pass up. The officers have been let go and they are in the middle of an investigation and probable lawsuit which is forthcoming. But the audacity to lie on a police report and have a higher up sign off on it is indicative of a worse issue that could happen to any citizen. The gentlemen discuss this incident.
It's then time for the 3rd round of the one hit wonders Tournament of pop culture. The guys break down another set of songs until we are down to the final 4 (which is happening in a couple episodes!...pending anything stoping us). Did your favorite song make the list? Did the guys vote properly for who you think should move on and who gets booted? Find out!
And finally the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame released their list of potential nominees and there a lot of heavy hitters on this list. Cyndi Lauper to the White Stripes, the list has some pretty certain winners in the bunch. Mark, Jay and Matt break down the list and discuss who is deserving and who is not.
